Abstract

In the framework of the project “Plant genetic resources of native species: biological and taxonomic studies”, financed by CONICYT-BID, species of the genus Hordeum  that are found in Uruguay L. were reviewed. A key was elaborated to distinguish them, descriptions and drawings are presented. This genus is represented in our country by three native species: H. stenostachys Godr., H. flexuosum Nees ex steud. and H. euclaston Steud., also H. murinum L. subsp leporinum (Link) Arcang. is found, a cosmopolitan species is cultivated for industrial purposes and to use it as fodder:  Hordeum vulgare “barley. This paper includes comments on the species mentioned above, and also about other species of the genus that are mentioned to occur in our country but which have not been confirmed yet.
